Advice From ACCA’s Top Students
If you’re a student with your eyes set on ACCA, the world-leading accountancy qualification for anybody who’s an aspiring financial profession then what you’re going to need is the right advice and guidance in order to ace the exams you’ll need to take.
ACCA provides students with the knowledge and values they need to have successful careers and lead organizations with the right skill-set. ACC in Pakistan is as much of a popular choice among the youth as anywhere else in the world; just this year four Pakistani students took the lead and topped ACCA exams worldwide.
And who can give you better advice than the students who conquered ACCA with flying colors? Here’s some advice coming to you straight from the top-scoring students of ACCA.
Time Management Is Key
Roshenka Madanayake is a gold medal winner who snatched 407 marks on the ACCA examinations back in 2013. She has shared that employing effective time management is key if you want to score well on the exams.
You have to revise your entire syllabus and practice as many past exam questions as much as you can. This practice can be your major lifesaver because it will give you insight into what you can expect on the exam, especially if it’s your first time and you’re not sure about the content.
Be Consistent
Emambuccos Ibrahim Anees was a top performer of the ACCA Taxation Exam in 2018 and he shares how it’s very important to have a detailed and clear set of goals before getting into the preparation for ACCA.
Once you have your goals set, that’s where the consistency has to kick in. He states that it can be challenging to keep a solid consistent studying routine depending on the kind of environment you’re in, but tracking your progress can help overcome this.
You’ll be more motivated and confident when you can keep track of where you are and how much progress you are making, and it’ll give you the boost you need to work harder.
Create A Flexible And Realistic Revision Plan
Curating a revision plan that works best for you is another piece of advice that Emambuccos Ibrahim Anees stresses on. He says that ACCA is nothing to be scared of if you follow a flexible plan that works for you.
The way he did it was by building a plan on a spreadsheet with all the questions that he needed to practice. Practicing those exam-style questions under exam conditions is extremely important and having a revision plan is what helps in identifying areas of weaknesses that need to be worked on.
The PQRST Method
Rohail Amjad, a top CAT student from Pakistan utilizes the PQRST method to ace all his exams and it’s something that ACCA students can also take advantage of.
PQRST stands for preview, question, revise, summary and test. The way this method works is that you have to first preview the topic to figure out what you need to know and then not down all the questions you have about it. When your exams are coming up, revise the topics and make short notes from them in a summary form.
By testing yourself this way, it will help you see what your progress is on the subject and where your knowledge gaps lie.
Look up Extra Resources
Anitha Sudarsanam from Singapore is a silver medal winner of the ACCA examinations and one piece of advice she stands by is the importance of looking through the ACCA exam resources, the examiner’s reports, and technical articles.
This is especially important if you’re going to attempt Professional level papers. This is something extra you can do besides revising through the entire syllabus which can help you in the long run.
